One of the sultry favorites of True Blood, Anna Paquin, has definitely raised a few eyebrows. Along with Clay Aiken and Cyndi Lauper, Anna Paquin has publicly declared her sexuality. The PSA that Anna Paquin features in is for the Give A Damn campaign against hate-based violence. The Give A Damn organization got several celebrities together to speak in this PSA. The organization provides exact same day loans to certain GLBT causes.

At the very start of the 30-second PSA, Anna Paquin simply states “I am bisexual”. Who Anna Paquin might be dating – if anybody – is still unknown.

What does it mean that Anna Paquin is bisexual
What, really, does it mean when Anna Paquin says that she is bisexual? In general, bisexuality means that a person is attracted to both men and women. Some self-identified bisexuals are equally attracted to either gender. Other self-identified bisexuals have a slight preference for one gender or the other. Both the Klein Sexual Orientation Grid and the Kinsey Scale attempt to put this spectrum of sexuality on a sliding scale. Both scales use a 0-6 scale; 0 is heterosexual and 6 is homosexual. If someone falls in the 3-5 range, they are usually considered bisexual.

The Give A Damn campaign advertisement does not feature just Anna Paquin. Elton John, Wanda Sykes, Eric Roberts, Sharon Osbourne, Whoopi Goldberg, Kelly Osbourne, Jason Mraz, Kim Kardashian, Judith Light, Cynthia Nixon, and Kevin Alejandro all speak out in the advertisement. Some of these celebrities are out and out queer, others are straight.
Speaking out against Hate Crimes and Don’t Ask Don’t Tell
The Public Service Announcement where the Anna Paquin bisexual announcement is made has two goals: First, it speaks out against hate crimes against GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender) persons. It also takes on the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy without specifically bringing it up. This is a policy of kicking openly GLBT members of the U.S. military out of service, and it is currently under review. Many GLBT youth and members of the armed forces are forced to get cheap payday loans after their support systems have crumbed beneath them. The Give A Damn campaign aims to cut down on problems like this.
